Where Flames and Oilers games air in the 2026-27 season

The short answer to how to watch Flames and Oilers games this season is Sportsnet, with two exceptions that catch people out. Monday games stream only on Sportsnet+, and a handful of Wednesday games stream only on Prime Video. Everything else, national Saturday games and the regional games on the other nights, sits on the Sportsnet channels you get through cable, satellite or a Sportsnet+ subscription.

The reason for the shuffle is a new deal. Rogers, which owns Sportsnet, signed a 12-year national agreement with the NHL worth about 11 billion Canadian dollars, and 2026-27 is its first season. The deal lets Rogers turn every regional Flames and Oilers broadcast into a national one, which in practice means fewer games that disappear when you leave the province.

One thing did not survive the change: free hockey on over-the-air TV. CBC and Sportsnet did not renew their arrangement, so NHL games left CBC after the 2025-26 season, ending a run of 74 years. Citytv no longer carries national games either. If your plan was an antenna on the roof, it no longer works for NHL games.

Saturday nights: Sportsnet now, not CBC

Saturday is still the big hockey night, but it has a new address. Rogers carries it as Saturday Night Hockey on the Sportsnet channels, and the same games stream on Sportsnet+. Calgary viewers will find most national Flames Saturday games on Sportsnet West, according to the schedule Sportsnet published in September. Oilers Saturday games sit on the national Sportsnet feed.

The name Hockey Night in Canada stays with CBC, which now uses it for Saturday games of the Professional Women's Hockey League. Long-time viewers who flip to CBC out of habit at seven o'clock will find a different league on the ice.

If you cancelled cable years ago, a Sportsnet+ subscription covers the Saturday games in Alberta. The standard tier carries national games and the in-market regional games; the premium tier adds games from outside your region. Prices change through the season, so check the current rate on the Sportsnet site before you sign up.

Monday nights: streaming only on Sportsnet+

Monday Night Hockey is the night most likely to leave you staring at the wrong channel. Those games are not on any Sportsnet TV channel at all; they stream only on Sportsnet+. The Oilers have nine of them this season, starting on 26 October, and the Flames have their own block of Monday games through the winter.

Viewers who already pay for Sportsnet through a TV provider are not automatically covered. Rogers and Shaw TV customers get the Monday games, but subscribers through other providers need to add Sportsnet+ access on top. Rogers lists a monthly add-on for exactly that purpose, available since mid September.

Because the Monday games are national, they are not blacked out by region. A Flames fan living in Toronto sees the same Monday stream as one in Bowness.

Wednesday nights: selected games on Prime Video

Wednesday belongs to Amazon. In July 2026 Prime Video signed a 12-year sublicence with Rogers that runs to the end of the 2037-38 season. It covers at least 26 national regular season games each year on Wednesday nights, in English and French, plus selected playoff series every spring. Prime members in Canada pay nothing extra to watch.

The Wednesday package is streaming only, like Monday. The Flames have four Prime Video games in 2026-27 and the Oilers have five. The first Battle of Alberta of the season, Flames at Oilers on Wednesday 28 October, is one of them, so the season's first meeting will not be on a Sportsnet channel. For the full story of the rivalry and its record, see the Battle of Alberta page.

Prime Video used to hold Mondays, under a package called Prime Monday Night Hockey. If an old bookmark or a smart TV menu still points you to Mondays on Prime, it is out of date.

Regional games, Sportsnet One and blackouts

Most remaining games, the Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, are regional broadcasts on Sportsnet West. When the Flames and Oilers play at the same time, one of them moves, usually to Sportsnet One. The Oilers also have Sportsnet Oilers, a part-time channel that picks up selected regional broadcasts. If the game is not on Sportsnet West, try those two next.

Regional games are blacked out outside the team's broadcast region. Inside Alberta, both teams are in market, so the Sportsnet West channel or a standard Sportsnet+ subscription shows both. Outside the region, the official route is Sportsnet+ Premium, which carries out-of-market games. Sportsnet says it lifted about 150 regional blackouts for 2026-27, so fewer games go dark than in past seasons.

Blackout rules follow where the service thinks you are, not where you live. Travel to Saskatchewan or the Kootenays and a regional game you watched at home last week may suddenly be unavailable on your phone.

Radio: QR Calgary 770 and 880 CHED

Every Flames game, home and road, is on QR Calgary 770 AM this season. Corus and the Flames signed a five-year radio deal in August 2026 after Sportsnet 960 went off the air in July. Derek Wills still calls the play by play, so the voice on the dial is familiar even if the frequency is not.

Oilers games are on 880 CHED, the station that has carried them for years. CHED moved from 630 to 880 on the AM band in 2024, so older car radios with a preset on 630 need resetting. Both stations stream online as well.

Radio is still the best choice on a highway drive or at a cabin with no signal for video, and some fans mute the TV and play the radio call over it.

Watching in a bar on Monday or Wednesday

Sports bars buy commercial TV packages, which usually include the Sportsnet channels for Saturdays and the regional nights. Streaming-only games are a different matter. Not every room puts a Sportsnet+ or Prime Video stream on the big screens, so on a Monday or a Wednesday it is worth calling ahead and asking whether the game is on.

For the rooms with the most screens, see where to watch the Flames in Calgary and where to watch the Oilers in Edmonton. Both guides list each bar's own page, which is where a game night or a schedule change shows up first.

This guide was checked against the Sportsnet schedules published in September 2026. Channels can change during the season, especially in the playoffs, so treat the team's own broadcast schedule as the final word for any single game.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is Hockey Night in Canada still on CBC?

No NHL games air on CBC in 2026-27. The sublicence between CBC and Sportsnet was not renewed, so Saturday NHL games moved to the Sportsnet channels as Saturday Night Hockey. CBC kept the Hockey Night in Canada name and uses it for Saturday games of the Professional Women's Hockey League.

What channel are Flames games on TV in Calgary?

Most Flames games air on Sportsnet West, including most national Saturday games. When the Flames and Oilers play at the same time, the Flames game can move to Sportsnet One. Monday games stream only on Sportsnet+, and four Wednesday games stream only on Prime Video. Every game is on QR Calgary 770 AM radio.

How do I watch Oilers games without cable?

A Sportsnet+ subscription covers national Oilers games and, inside Alberta, the regional ones, and it is the only way to watch the nine Monday games. Add Prime Video for the five Wednesday games. Outside the Oilers' broadcast region, the premium tier of Sportsnet+ is needed for regional games. Radio is free on 880 CHED.

Why is the Flames or Oilers game blacked out?

Regional broadcasts are only shown inside the team's broadcast region, so a regional game can be blocked if you or your device appear to be elsewhere. National games, Monday streams and Prime Video games are not blacked out by region. Sportsnet+ Premium is the official way to watch regional games from outside the area.

Can I watch Flames and Oilers games for free?

Not on TV in 2026-27. With CBC and Citytv no longer carrying national NHL games, there is no over-the-air option. Prime Video games come at no extra cost for existing Prime members, and every game is free on radio: QR Calgary 770 for the Flames and 880 CHED for the Oilers, both also streaming online.
