The guide is split by city first, then by what you are trying to do on game night. The full list of pages follows the section notes below.

Calgary: Red Mile to the Saddledome

The Calgary hub is the place to start if you are watching the Flames or the Stampeders in town. It splits the city into four game-night areas: 17th Avenue and the Red Mile, the Beltline, Victoria Park and downtown around Stephen Avenue.

From there, separate pages cover where to watch the Flames, weekly wing nights, happy hours by day, a walking guide to the Beltline, 17th Ave and Victoria Park, and a visitor's page for the Saddledome. The Flames play the 2026 to 2027 season in the Saddledome; Scotia Place is due to open in fall 2027.

Edmonton: Ice District, Whyte Ave and 124 Street

The Edmonton hub works the same way, built around the Ice District downtown, Whyte Ave in Old Strathcona, 124 Street with Jasper Avenue, and a handful of places around the rest of the city.

Its pages cover where to watch the Oilers, Wing Wednesday, Whyte Ave and 124 Street, dog-friendly patios for the warm months, and how to get into Rogers Place by LRT and pedway without fighting for parking.

The rivalry between the two cities

The Battle of Alberta page covers the Flames and Oilers rivalry and its football side, the Stampeders and the Elks. It gives the all-time NHL record of 146-134-18-7 in Calgary's favour as of the end of the 2025 to 2026 season, along with a timeline of the moments both fan bases still argue about.

If you only read one page before a Calgary versus Edmonton night, make it this one. It is the page that explains why a quiet Tuesday in October can feel like a playoff night when the two teams meet.

Betting in Alberta, explained

The betting section explains Alberta's regulated market, which launched on 13 July 2026 with the AGLC as regulator. It is for adults 18 and over who are physically located in Alberta. Pages explain how NHL lines, Oilers and Flames odds and CFL markets are read, using made-up example numbers, and a responsible gambling page lists free help. No operators are named or linked anywhere in it.

History of Home & Away

Home & Away from 2015 to 2026 tells the story of the Calgary sports bar that seated Flames and Oilers fans in one room, from 17th Avenue SW to First Street SW, the Edmonton years and the closing in April 2026. It is written from published news reports and lists them.

That page is history, not a directory. The bar is closed, and its old addresses are not places to visit for a game today; the city hubs above are.

About the guide and its policies

Four short pages explain how the site works. The about page covers who writes the guide, how venues are checked and the photo credit table. The contact page has the editorial email and what to send. The privacy policy sets out what little is collected, and the AI notice explains how illustrations are labelled.

Every venue listing in the guide was checked in October 2026. Deals change, so check with the bar before you go.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Where do I start in the Home & Away guide?

Start with the city you are in. The Calgary and Edmonton hubs each split the city into four game-night areas and link to every page for that city, from wing nights and happy hours to the arena visitor guides. The sitemap below lists every page on the site.

Does the sitemap include the betting pages?

Yes. The betting section and its pages on NHL lines, Oilers odds, Flames odds, CFL markets and responsible gambling are listed with the rest. They are for adults 18 and over in Alberta, explain rules with made-up examples and name no operators.

How often are the pages in the guide updated?

Venue listings are checked against venues' own websites or, where a venue posts nothing, against the published listing named on the page, and dated; the current set was checked in October 2026. Pages are updated when a reader sends a correction with a source or when the desk rechecks a city. Each listing shows the date it was last checked.
